Well-child care
Regular visits with your pediatrician are an important way of monitoring your child’s health, growth and development. Scheduled visits also allow you and your child to get to know your doctor and discuss long-term goals for better health. Your pediatrician will try to identify potential problems and help you make plans to address those concerns to prevent illness.
Well-child checkups are common at these ages:
- A few days after hospital discharge
- Two months
- Four months
- Six months
- Nine months
- One year
- 15 months
- 18 months
- Two years
- Annually starting at two years
If your child's provider has any special concerns, more frequent visits might be recommended.
Well-child checkups can include:
- Height and weight check
- Monitoring of heart and lung function
- Examination of the eyes, ears, nose and throat
- Vision and hearing screening beginning at age 4
- Skin examination
- Vaccinations
- Time to discuss concerns or questions
